Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Every third Monday in January, we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King dedicated his life fighting for civil rights and for poverty. His famous “I Have a Dream” speech exposed the American public to the injustice of racial inequality. Dr. King fervently persuaded Americans to stop discriminating based on race. At the age of 35, Dr. King became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner in history. So many accomplishments in such a short time.
Let’s take some time to share the accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with our students. Let them learn about his struggles and what the did to help end discrimination based on race.
To celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I created a digital breakout that provides students the opportunity to explore the life of Dr. King.
Let’s Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – Digital Breakout – Grades 3-5
→ Word Lock – Students will read each Fun Fact and find the hidden letters.
→ Color Lock – Students will drag and drop the correct character trait to each sentence.
→ Direction Lock – Using the Fun Fact, students will follow the events to the image of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning at “START HERE.”
→ Number Lock – Students will read each definition then choose the correct vocabulary word. If correct, they earn a clue, if not, they go back to the original slide.

An additional extension I created for students to complete is a digital mystery hundreds chart picture (3 options to choose from, 1-100, sight words, or multiplication).

You can choose to have students use the 1-100 chart, a sight word chart or a multiplication chart to reveal the image.
