I live in Virginia. As of yesterday, March 30th, 2020 we are under a “stay at home” order from our governor until June 10th, 2020. That’s six weeks away!
School is out until next year! I have been hosting online office hours and PD for the past weeks making sure to stay connected with both of my schools. I am thankful for the sense of community that I feel each time I host a meeting.
As we move forward with home learning, I feel that kids need more realistic and authentic learning tasks than packets and online work. I created the following choice boards for anyone that wants to share with their students and families for the next two months.
Students have the opportunity to complete the entire choice board or just a few and then write about their favorite activity for the week. Many of the activities I remember doing as a kid and when my daughter was little.
Learning comes in all forms, shapes, and sizes! Parents have enough to worry about than packets of work that they have to spend hours helping their kids with.
Let’s take back learning and make it FUN and student-centered!! Let students choose things that interest them and let them move forward with their learning but provide some guidance!
I pray that your families stay safe and healthy during these uncertain times! I encourage you all to start a journal to record what will become a historic event!
